Bad News for Our Bima Fans

So, yeah. First of all we want to apologize for about 3 weeks of MIA that we had. We do feel bad about it. We're sorry about that.

Secondly, and sadly, we want to say that we're dropping Bima. We don't want to but somehow we have to this in the end. There are reasons that forced us to drop Bima. We had some fun times doing this fan sub and regret none of it. In fact, the only regret we have is the need to stop subbing it. We really hope you guys can understand this. Again we're really sorry about this. If you still interested on Bima, you can grab one from Bima-Anon or Sky Fansub (Fact: We don't know whether they still doing this or not) which will be something we do to watch Bima.

If you were watching our previous release, we want to know how do you like it and some feedback on it. It's will help us much :)

Fact: We (almost certain) will step down from series funsubbing scene until unforeseeable time in the future. We still gonna do fansub but only for something that not have schedule (ie: PV).

That's the TL;DR version.
If you want the long version which include reasons, journey, and challenges that we had, keep reading.

I can't remember if I've mentioned this on previous posts or not, but we're doing the subs on impulse. Back then I just finished watched Bima Episode 1 when darcangel chat me, "This surely be fun to sub to English!" She reasoned that my English is good enough (for her) to sub this thing to English. Then we dragged xortimus around for this. Previously we already had experiment on subbing that we planned on releasing but we didn't since we had technical problems (the one that also happened on Our release of Bima Eps 2)

We all just thinking, "eh, why not" about the idea and jump to it. We just did it because we want to and because we could. We didn't foresee the future at all and thinking that we will tackle this until the last episode. We've never been so wrong.

Though at the time there are already a video with English caption on Youtube, I believed (and still to this point) that we're the first one to release one outside of Youtube and embed subtitle. We tried our best and was shocked when realized that the response was overwhelming (to us).

The response was our very motivation to fix the first episode to make it better and better. You see that we have 3 version of Episode 1 lol. We are close to each other (in (friendly) relationship context not distance context) so we can did the sub quite fast. For a while we always the first one to release the subs.

After several episodes, reality kicks in. We sacrifice several days worth of social life for our fansub since we want to had it done as fast as we can. A lot of hangout offer from our friends were turned down (and of course a lot of gaming/watching anime/TV Series/Movies time gone too). We missed a lot of things since we started subbing Bima.

At first, we only late about 3-4 days on Sixth Episode because of the Islamic New Year holidays. The three of us returned to our respective home for a week and busy going here and there to meet friends and family; which we hadn't felt in a long time (kinda dramatic but it really was like that at least for me). And it felt good.

The next week I was asked to go fishing with my friends. They said this will be a routine every week activity. While I won't join every week, this activity will surely hinder my subbing time. That and I also have turned down a lot (if not all) hangouts and boardgames sessions every weekends. Xortimus just got a new job and he was busy getting the hang of it and have little time for subbing other than weekend. While darcangel was on the edge with her boyfriend because of Bima (she refused to admit it but her boyfriend told us so). He didn't ashamed when he said he starts getting irritated because Bima take a lot of darcangel times.

So yeah, we discussed and discussed about this for a long time. Seems like our main problem was starting this based on impulse. We didn't think this through and didn't realize that in the long term this activity will burdening us. Every week our motivation faded little by little. Seems like we just longing something that not restricted by schedule on our free days. Maybe if Bima airs on week days we could be around longer. Or not start at all.

We did have a long and days discussion about the future of us. Me and xortimus voted to drop while darcangel still want to go. I understand her reasoning. It does feels bad to drop this, but I just can't keep this up on schedule anymore and the motivation is just not there. I missed a lot of anime already. Granted that my reasons are not as good as theirs, but as both translator and timer I am the one who spent the most time on every episode and the others agreed on that. We argued whether it will be different with more people but ended up with unanimous decision that we want to keep the member like this, nothing more nor less. The long discussion is the reason why we haven't post anything until now.

The results of our discussions are as follows. We had fun doing it, we really do. It was really great to see people appreciate our release and sometimes really heavy in the chest whenever people say something bad about us. But nonetheless, we had a blast while it last. Yet the time we have in RL is just not compatible with something with a certain schedule like Bima therefore we need to drop it. We feels bad to drop it, but in the end, that's the best for us individually (probably not the best for the future of DBX-Sub). We applaud and give our respect to every single fansubs out there who are able to stay around for a series until the end. This fansubs thing is harder than we expect and they are able to keep it going. Thanks to them, a lot of people able to watch a lot of series. And their dedication to the fansubs scene is obviously much better than us.

That said, we won't really move out from fansubs scene, but we will pick something that don't have any schedules like PV for example. Initially, PV was our target, but when Bima come around we just jump in to the boat. Though it will sounds bad, but let's just say Bima was our experiment on our capacity about fansubbing. Now we know for sure that while we love to do subs, we just can't afford have a certain time of a week to always be taken for subbing on a weekly basis and need to be done asap. We are more comfortable to do project that let us move at our own pace and take our time.

For the time being, we're gonna take a break for several days/weeks. We're gonna prepare our own blog (not using mine) and looking for a project to do from our friends. The next one will almost certain to be a PV. Currently we're gonna do PV from our picking or our friends recommendations to test our capability. If everything feels right, we're gonna open commission for it. But no promise. The PV will, like our latest Bima's release, released as MP4 and MKV softsub and will also uploaded to Youtube. We might in the end have a separate Youtube channel from the one Benz has to make things tidier. That is if everything gone as planned.

We're really glad to took our chances on subbing Bima. Never regret the moment at all, that is something that we agreed on. We need feedback for our release though so we can improve for our future projects. We hope you enjoyed our release until the sixth episode. Thank you for all the supports. And thank you for anyone who read the long version, we really appreciate that.

So, DBX-Sub will resigns from this blog and will have our own in the future. All future post from this blog will be from Benz as an individual not from DBX-Sub as a group.

See you on our blog (still under development)!
See you on the next project (on an uncertain date in the future)!
